Dr. Arun Kanala, MS, MCh is a distinguished surgeon specializing in thoracic surgery, with a career spanning various medical settings both nationally and internationally. Dr. Kanala commenced his medical journey by earning his MBBS degree from Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) in Warangal, Andhra Pradesh. Building upon this foundation, he pursued advanced training, completing his MS and MCh qualifications at Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad, AP. His tenure as an Associate Professor at Osmania Hospital underscored his commitment to both clinical practice and academic excellence.

Seeking to expand his expertise further, Dr. Kanala pursued a fellowship in Thoracic Surgical Oncology at the esteemed Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA, USA. This pivotal experience provided him with invaluable insights and mentorship under the tutelage of some of the foremost leaders in thoracic surgery globally. Notably, he trained alongside luminaries such as Dr. David Sugarbaker, MD, who currently serves as President of the American Thoracic Surgery Association, as well as Dr. Raphael Bueno, MD, and Dr. Scott Swanson, MD, renowned figures in the field.

Dr. Kanala’s professional journey reflects a diverse spectrum of clinical exposure, ranging from serving in a primary health center in rural India to training at one of the world’s most prestigious medical institutions. This breadth of experience has equipped him with a comprehensive understanding of healthcare disparities and the complexities of providing quality medical care across diverse populations.

Today, Dr. Kanala brings the culmination of his extensive training and expertise to his practice at Citizens Hospital and the American Oncology Institute. As an Assistant Surgeon, he remains dedicated to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care to his patients, utilizing the latest advancements in thoracic surgery to optimize outcomes and improve quality of life.
